Occupational therapists recommend keeping your wrists in a neutral position at all times if you can when working. This means that your wrists should be as straight as possible. This is one reason that doctors often recommend braces to help to keep your wrist in a neutral position. Another way of looking at a neutral position is the way piano players play.  Their wrists are pretty flat when looked at from the side. Their wrists are not bent at severe angles at all.

You can also reduce your chances of suffering from carpal tunnel by doing stretches and practicing massage therapy on yourself. A combination of massage therapy, stretching, and correct body positioning can really put you on the path to avoiding pain. Doing these things at least once a day if not more often then that really doesn't take that much time and will save your body in the end. Make sure if you work in a profession that may contribute to carpal tunnel that you be proactive about avoiding it.
